Bench dogs are a work bench accessory used to clamp work down to the table, or used as a stop when planing or sanding a piece. they can also be used as standoffs to keep work elevated off your workbench. bench dogs fit snugly into openings drilled into the workbench and can be square or round.. I needed some more bench dogs, so i crafted some out of dowel stock with bullet catches. build this festool mft style portable bench for under $150 dave stanton woodworking workbench. It's simple to make effective bench dogs from a length of dowel rod attached to a small block of wood. (see photo below.) the only problem: you can't adjust the dog's height for project parts of varying thickness. that's why kevin and john both prefer dogs that utilize springs that press against the holes to hold the dogs at various heights.. how to make woodworking bench dogs
I built my bench about a month ago but never got around to making the bench dogs. sure you could buy bench dogs but why do that when they are so easy to make yourself..
